LODGE LEADERSHIP
DEVELOPMENT COURSE

Kittatinny Lodge 5's Lodge Leadership Development Course (LLDC) was held on February 26, 2000 at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation in the Dining Hall.  A total of 24 participants and staff members gathered to learn about leadership and lodge structure, as well as to have a good training and company.

A few months of planning and preparation by the Lodge Officers and the executive committee came to fruition at the Lodge Leadership Development Seminar in February. The freshly revised Lodge Leadership Development Seminar was based on materials presented at the National Leadership Seminar a few months earlier.  The seminar was custom designed for our lodge via a CD-ROM program and surveys completed by lodge members that assessed our lodge's strengths and weaknesses in certain areas.  Thus, the seminar focused on those areas that we knew the least about.

The 24 lodge members who chose to participate gathered at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation for a day filled with training and the 3 F's (fun, food and fellowship, of course). Everyone enjoyed top-notch training sessions ranging from the Role of the Section, Native Americans, Ordeal Administration, Recognition, to New Member Orientation. In addition to learning new things about the Order of the Arrow, everybody enjoyed the excellent food prepared by the Kitchen Klan, as well as the time spent with their Brothers.  Some of the trainers also made the day memorable with unplanned flip chart messages and juxtaposed words.  The officers trust that the skills and information presented at this seminar will be helpful in everyone's jobs and leadership roles in the lodge.

Looking ahead to the future, the Lodge will need to hold another LLDC in the fall in order to meet our Quality Lodge requirements.  New requirements mandate that a percentage of the lodge Executive Committee attend an LLDC.  Although attendance was good at the February LLDC, it was not enough to meet our requirements.  Thus, next year's slate of officers will soon be working hard to create another excellent day of training and fun to prepare everyone for their jobs in the lodge and to fulfill Quality Lodge requirements.
